I don’t know if it’s proper to mix white wine with champagne, but the Yukon has never been one for convention. So this New Year’s Eve, the Yukon will be doing exactly that, as they ring in the New Year with special musical guests White Whine.
It’s sure to be the Eastside’s craziest party of the night!
Now if you’re a regular to the Yukon, you’ve probably heard White Wine. They’re a relatively new band, but they’ve certainly found a home within the friendly confines of the Yukon. (They perform here the first Wednesday of each month for White Whine Wednesday.) The band is quickly making a name for itself with its own unique sound, and is also known for putting its own touch on your favorite cover songs. Here’s a quick link to one of their YouTube videos.
The music is set to start at 9 PM, to be followed by a free champagne toast at midnight.
White Whine returns to the Yukon New Years Eve for a free performance.
Yukon Manager Ashley and her friendly bar staff will be in a party mood all night long, serving up your favorite liquid libations and the tastiest pub grub on the Eastside.
See you New Year’s Eve – Happy New Year!
The Yukon Tavern holds a special place in my heart. It’s casual vibe, it’s great food, drinks, and service, and it’s long history as a historical marker in its Southeast Portland neighborhood. Well, I’ll soon be moving to a new city and leaving the many things I love about this “dive” bar.
These are just a few of the things I’ll miss most about the Yukon Tavern.
The Food and Drink
You can always count on a delicious juicy burger made from fresh ingredients and stacked high inside a fresh bun. Biting into one of these makes me smile every time. I’ll also miss the great drinks served at the Yukon. No matter what I choose to drink, I know it will be mixed with pride and served with a smile by one of the Yukon’s skilled bartenders. One of my favorites is the CBD drink Abliss Lemon Ginger. The chefs and bartenders go above and beyond to keep their customers happy, and that philosophy is proven time and again in the food and drinks they serve.
Events All Month Long
The Yukon hosts a variety of events throughout the month. From movies, to bands, to poker; whatever the interest, the Yukon’s calendar will have something for you. I attended my first mobile painting class at the Yukon and now I am a regular painter at home. Now they’ve added live music every week and I’m sorry I’ll have to miss out hearing all the great bands filling their calendar.
Most of all I will miss the easy vibe and welcoming atmosphere I always found at the Yukon. I toasted friends, shared baskets of fries with friends, and joked with friends across the table. And, across the bar. The bartenders always make you feel like you belong there as they buzz around making sure everyone is having a great time.
While I’ll miss the Yukon after I’m gone, I’ll look forward to the day when I return to enjoy the good food and drinks, friends and fun that I find at the Yukon Tavern.
“May the odds be ever in your favor.”

Jennifer Lawrence Digital Painting” by Maartje van Hoorn
Jennifer Lawrence became the star she is today when she made the role of Katniss Everdeen her own in this hit film. Based on the bestselling novel of the same name, this action, adventure, sci-fi, thriller tells the story of an oppressed girl who rises to the pinnacle of her nation.
Every year two young contestants from each of the nation’s twelve district are selected by lottery to participate in the year’s biggest event, The Hunger Games, that is part entertainment, part brutal retribution for a past rebellion. The televised competition pits twenty-four young participants against each other in an bloody battle to the death while the nation watches. Katniss volunteers to save her younger sister from the battle and she and her partner join the fight. Whoever survives the blood bath is declared the winner.

In a city where foodies rule and beer culture reigns it can be a hard fight to get noticed by dedicated connoisseurs, but thanks to a recent article in Portland’s own Eater magazine, we can claim one of those top spots. In their recent article entitled “Where to Imbibe and Dine in Sellwood and Westmoreland” the Yukon Tavern takes their number one spot as a great place for food and drink in the Sellwood-Moreland neighborhood!
Calling the Yukon Tavern “one of the last consummate dives in the city,” writer Alex Frane states that the true markings of a dive bar still exist in our historic establishment. To prove his point he calls out the pool table, video-poker machines, and our legendary shuffleboard table, as well as our long-standing “dive bar“ ambiance set off by the wood-paneled walls that have been a part of our interior for decades.
Of course, Frane also mentions our 18 taps and cheap well drinks but we’ve also got top shelf liquor, wine, cider, and exciting new CBD drinks to enjoy, too. And, he cites our food menu as being filled with choices you’d expect in a bar like ours. He especially liked our fish and chips basket, calling it “pretty solid.”
Thanks Alex Frane and Eatermagazine for the great review and for placing the Yukon Tavern at the top of your Sellwood-Moreland list! Come back again soon for another round and enjoy one of our many special events. Every week our calendar is filled with drink and food specials, movie nights, mobile studio painting events, free pool and poker nights, and Last Call Trivia. There’s something for everyone to love at the Yukon Tavern!
For beer lovers everywhere there is no other holiday like St. Patrick’s Day. It’s a day to celebrate our love of great Irish whiskey and revel in the magic of a great tasting beer. In Portland, one of the world’s most prolific craft beer and spirits cities, this holiday is particularly special, and we invite everyone who likes to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day to join us at Southeast Portland’s Yukon Tavern.
The Beer We Serve
Every day the Yukon has eighteen beers featured on our rotating taps. (Check out what is currently being offered on our automatically updated online leader board!) In honor of the Irish brew masters and their holiday, we are featuring several beers brewed on the Emerald Isle this month, including Smithwick’s Irish Red and a favorite of stout lovers, Guinness. (To find out the proper Irish way to enjoy an Irish beer check out our blog post “How to Dink a Guinness the Irish Way.”)
The Difference that Makes Irish Beer Better
Irish brew masters produce over eight hectoliters of beer every year, with lagers representing 60%, stout accounting for 34%, and ale making up 6% of beer exports internationally. Their methods are rooted in over 350 years of perfecting the brewing process and using barley grown in their cool-weather, rainy climate (sound familiar?). During the 18thcentury, brewers began importing hops from England and increased their production to more than 600,000 barrels of beer produced annually. Sales were also boosted at that time due to a tax leveled against distilleries to encourage less whiskey drinkers in exchange for what was considered the less disruptive drink and beer. The reputation of Irish beer continued to grow over time through competitions held by the Royal Dublin Society, giving awards to brewers who used the most Irish hops and those who produced the most porter.
Great Irish Whiskey Tasting
Interested in tasting the rich, smooth taste of a great Irish whiskey? The Yukon offers an Irish Whiskey Flight that features three different whiskeys with a complimentary Guinness or Smithwicks chaser for only $12! With thirteen different varieties to choose from, we’re sure you’ll fall in love with one, or maybe all three. We’ve included two from Jameson, one of the most popular Irish whiskeys.
The love of Irish beer and spirits continues to thrive in our city and we’re inviting all the lucky people of Portland to the Yukon Tavern on St. Patrick’s Day to toast two of the Emerald Isle’s best exports, delicious Irish beer and whiskey!
Ablis CBD Beverages has done it again! They’ve created a drink that is so good it deserves to be sitting side-by-side with Portland’s best beers at the Yukon Tavern.
Ablis Beverage’s Cran-Orange CBD drink has found a home on the Yukon Tavern’s rotating tapsand its rich, fruity flavor has quickly become a favorite of people who are looking for a boost of CBD.
Last year we added Ablis’s Lemon Ginger drink to our drink menu and got a great response from our customers. They told us we were onto something good with this healthful, delicious drink, so it was a sure thing that the latest version of their CBD recipe would be a slam dunk, too.
Their cran-orange uncarbonated drink is packed with a mellow sweet flavor, giving our customers a delicious alternative to alcohol laced beverages. It’s sweet, without being overly saccharine, and rich in layered fruit flavors. This complex drink is a perfect accompaniment to a hot meal during the waning winter months.

The evidence of CBD’s health benefits are still being investigated, but you don’t have to rely on its effectiveness as a health aid as a reason to enjoy this drink—it’s delicious flavor is enough to hook you! Come into the Yukon Tavern today to try Ablis’s new Cran-Orange CBD drink. It’s sweet, tangy and delicious!
