The Yukon Tavern holds a special place in my heart. It’s casual vibe, it’s great food, drinks, and service, and it’s long history as a historical marker in its Southeast Portland neighborhood. Well, I’ll soon be moving to a new city and leaving the many things I love about this “dive” bar.
These are just a few of the things I’ll miss most about the Yukon Tavern.
The Food and Drink
You can always count on a delicious juicy burger made from fresh ingredients and stacked high inside a fresh bun. Biting into one of these makes me smile every time. I’ll also miss the great drinks served at the Yukon. No matter what I choose to drink, I know it will be mixed with pride and served with a smile by one of the Yukon’s skilled bartenders. One of my favorites is the CBD drink Abliss Lemon Ginger. The chefs and bartenders go above and beyond to keep their customers happy, and that philosophy is proven time and again in the food and drinks they serve.
Events All Month Long
The Yukon hosts a variety of events throughout the month. From movies, to bands, to poker; whatever the interest, the Yukon’s calendar will have something for you. I attended my first mobile painting class at the Yukon and now I am a regular painter at home. Now they’ve added live music every week and I’m sorry I’ll have to miss out hearing all the great bands filling their calendar.
Most of all I will miss the easy vibe and welcoming atmosphere I always found at the Yukon. I toasted friends, shared baskets of fries with friends, and joked with friends across the table. And, across the bar. The bartenders always make you feel like you belong there as they buzz around making sure everyone is having a great time.
While I’ll miss the Yukon after I’m gone, I’ll look forward to the day when I return to enjoy the good food and drinks, friends and fun that I find at the Yukon Tavern.
“May the odds be ever in your favor.”
The Yukon Tavern’s “Suds and Cinema” movie night is back on Sunday, May 5, at 7:20pm with one of the biggest movies of the decade—2012’s blockbuster, The Hunger Games!
Jennifer Lawrence Digital Painting” by Maartje van Hoorn
Jennifer Lawrence became the star she is today when she made the role of Katniss Everdeen her own in this hit film. Based on the bestselling novel of the same name, this action, adventure, sci-fi, thriller tells the story of an oppressed girl who rises to the pinnacle of her nation.
Every year two young contestants from each of the nation’s twelve district are selected by lottery to participate in the year’s biggest event, The Hunger Games, that is part entertainment, part brutal retribution for a past rebellion. The televised competition pits twenty-four young participants against each other in an bloody battle to the death while the nation watches. Katniss volunteers to save her younger sister from the battle and she and her partner join the fight. Whoever survives the blood bath is declared the winner.
The run-away hit written by Suzanne Collins is an exciting thrill ride and a great movie for the Yukon’s Sunday evening viewing. Over the years, our movie fan crowds have enjoyed a selection of Hollywood’s best movies, popular films, under-the-radar hits, and movies that are tailor-made for seeing in a bar, like Patrick Swayze’s Roadhouse.
This month’s selection might leave some hungry for more. At the Yukon you can have your pick of any of the delicious items off our menu. We’ve got eleven juicy burgers to choose from, including our chicken and fish burgers.
And our bartenders are there to quench your thirst throughout the movie. Join us on Sunday, May 5that 7:20pm for an evening of The Hunger Games at the Yukon Tavern.

In a city where foodies rule and beer culture reigns it can be a hard fight to get noticed by dedicated connoisseurs, but thanks to a recent article in Portland’s own Eater magazine, we can claim one of those top spots. In their recent article entitled “Where to Imbibe and Dine in Sellwood and Westmoreland” the Yukon Tavern takes their number one spot as a great place for food and drink in the Sellwood-Moreland neighborhood!
Calling the Yukon Tavern “one of the last consummate dives in the city,” writer Alex Frane states that the true markings of a dive bar still exist in our historic establishment. To prove his point he calls out the pool table, video-poker machines, and our legendary shuffleboard table, as well as our long-standing “dive bar“ ambiance set off by the wood-paneled walls that have been a part of our interior for decades.
Of course, Frane also mentions our 18 taps and cheap well drinks but we’ve also got top shelf liquor, wine, cider, and exciting new CBD drinks to enjoy, too. And, he cites our food menu as being filled with choices you’d expect in a bar like ours. He especially liked our fish and chips basket, calling it “pretty solid.”
Thanks Alex Frane and Eatermagazine for the great review and for placing the Yukon Tavern at the top of your Sellwood-Moreland list! Come back again soon for another round and enjoy one of our many special events. Every week our calendar is filled with drink and food specials, movie nights, mobile studio painting events, free pool and poker nights, and Last Call Trivia. There’s something for everyone to love at the Yukon Tavern!
The Yukon Tavern is feelin’ the love of our patrons this Valentine’s Day, with more and more great reviews coming. Take a look at some of the things people are saying about Southeast Portland’s classic dive bar.
“A True American-They call it a dive bar?? It’s far from being a dive, it’s great, we had a great time with the friendly locals, and the staff are awesome! They really know how to mix the drinks. We had bar food, which was cooked quickly and very well, and we visited there a lot while on holiday. It is the place to be—with their shuffleboard table, poker nights and various channels on their TV’s they cater for everyone it’s worth a visit.”

“Thedrinks are stiff and cheap. The tater tots are amazing and the atmosphere is completely classic. Every time I’m here I meet people I want to be friends with for life.” #truth
-Megan S., Yelp
“Yukon does it right. Booze is ludicrously cheap here and it is a first rate dive bar. What can you say to a plate of better-than-your-expectations biscuits and gravy for $6.00? Load me up! That’s what you say!”
“A hole in the wall place with a shuffleboard table and poker nights. Comfortable like a pair of your old favorite shoes.”
“Laid back-I thought the Yukon was rad. The bartender was friendly to me and you can’t complain about cheap PBR drafts. Couple the cheap prices with a nice red velvet interior and a good crowd.” -Raincnty, Barfly

Finally, the long wait is over! Super Bowl LIII is coming to television screens all over the world and you can count on the Yukon Tavern to be your Southeast Portland neighborhood Super Bowl LIII headquarters.
Join our football loving fans and feel like you are at the 50-yard line at our bar. You won’t have to miss out on one minute of action between the Los Angeles Rams and the New England Patriots when they take the field in Atlanta at 3:30pm Pacific Time.
The predictions for the game are mixed going in, making for an exciting game. With the Patriot’s previous Super Bowl experience and their powerful offense led by (love ‘em, or hate ‘em) quarterback Tom Brady, and the Ram’s powerful defense that has brought them back from the brink this season, it’s anyone’s game this year.
Sports viewing at our bar is better than being at the game because you’ll stay nice and warm and our bartenders are ready to keep your glass full of your favorite beverage! Bring your friends and sidle up to the bar to cheer on your favorite team while you sip your favorite beer. After the game you can stick around to either celebrate your team’s win, or drown your sorrows in one last pint.

And, of course, we’ll have all your favorite beers on tap throughout the day, so no more runs to the store to get more for you and your guests! We’re happy to keep your glass full and your team spirit high as you follow the highs and lows of the game.
Join us at the Yukon Tavern this weekend to cheer on your favorite players as the Rams take on the Patriots in Super Bowl LIII!
It’s a new year, with all the familiar resolutions to eat healthier than you did when you indulged over the holiday season. The Yukon Tavern is here to help with delicious pub grub that will give you the good food you want at a tavern but won’t throw you off your goals.
Getting Your Vegetables
Start your meal with a basket of Fried Green Beans and dipping sauce. They will give you that satisfying crunch typical of a great appetizer without the carbs associated with fries, tater tots, or onion rings. With a cupful of sauce (our fried green beans comes with ranch, but you can go for something spicier, like BBQ or Siracha), you’ll get the pleasing experience of traditional finger food, without the calories.
Protein Packed Entrees
Burgers don’t have to be a cheat meal. Get your fix with a Yukon Topless Double! We load it up just as you would expect a burger to be, with lettuce, tomato, and onion stacked on top of two juicy patties and a creamy slice of melted cheese for a low carb treat. There’s a pickle on the side and we can leave off the chips if you want to go all the way in meeting your goal. This is a great option for those following a keto or gluten-free diet.
We may be known as a traditional neighborhood bar with a menu full of delicious fried treats, but that doesn’t mean we can’t up our game to include a vegetarian choice on our menu. We’ve created a Veggie Burger that will provide the protein punch expect in a burger with the pleasing taste that you expect from the Yukon. We pile on the vegetables and cheese and put it between a velvety bun. It’s a veggie miracle!
Healthy Drinks? We’ve Got You Covered!
Pair your meal with Abliss Lemon Gingerdrink for a dose of the much talked about CBD natural supplement. It’s a cool and refreshing drink that provides the health benefits of marijuana, without the mind affecting chemicals of THC. The best part is that it hightens the taste of the healthy meal you’re enjoying!
Start the year off on the right foot with a healthy, satisfying, and delicious meal at Southeast Portland’s Yukon Tavern!
